“Lancaster, Wis,-- Memorial Day Friday brought the last of Grant County’s Negro colony to tiny “Pleasant Ridge” Cemetery, about five miles west of Lancaster. The colony, originally composed of slaves, ex-slaves, and their children, once numbered about 100. Now only Mrs. Dick Lewis was on hand to greet homecomers at the Grant County cemetery.”
