Back in the centuries the shops of stores you know started something on the order of public bartering places.

What has taken their place is the modern store where you can buy what you like just when you want it. You don’t have to buy a year’s supply all at once as of old. The storekeeper keeps it for you, and you buy only what you need as you need it.

The merchants and the manufacturer and advertising have brought this useful state of affairs about for your convenience you don’t even have to go to see everything and every shop to make your choice nowadays.

The advertisers relieve you of this trouble by bringing their goods to you in the advertisements before the days of the development of advertising, you would have had to visit a dozen or a score of places, weigh and choose, and then not be sure you had made the best selection. Advertising has made it possible to know just what will interest you and be of value to you.

Just think what this means; you order now without worry or trouble because advertising tells you all about the things you want to buy before you buy them.

Read the advertisements and think about them with this in mind. They are there to serve you.

The Negroes of Cuba started a revolt last week, which rapidly assumed such serious proportions that the United States found it necessary to send the gunboat Nashville to Guantanamo, where the Paducah and Eagle were already.

Most of the trouble is in Oriente province. The Cuban government at once rushed troops to the scene, 1200 going in one detachment alone.

Seven hundred fifty marines were sent from Philidelphia by the Prairie, and 5000 men are about to be sent from Newport News.

Congress is debating on the exact procedure for applying the Platt amendment in intervening in Cuba. It is likely that if the United States is actually compelled to intervene, the occupation will be permanent.

President Gomez of Cuba has wired President Taft that the Cuban government is able to … and president …

A band of rebels captured El Coney del Sitio near Palma Sorianoon.
